Facebook: The UK's top news stories of 2011

Facebook has revealed the most popular UK news stories in 2011.

The BBC tops the list with an article on the population of the world reaching seven billion, in which readers could find out what number they were by entering their birthday, and has eleven stories in the top 20.

Other popular stories include Charlie Sheen’s meltdown and the tale of a drunk Swedish elk stuck in an apple tree.

The Guardian has four stories in the top 20 and the Daily Mail three.
